I was really excited to cover this one, since I hadn’t been to a Grateful Dead anything since 1995. I’m not the type of person that likes to go out in 90°plus heat for 10 hours. However, this I was not willing to miss.

I guess I should tell you that I’ll be getting my Medicare card soon, along with a lot of other deadheads. So that fact was not deterring me. There were many others of my type at this festival, but the thing that really surprised me was...it was a family affair!

It was three generations of family affair!

There was a father who was wearing a full “Indian headdress,” that went right to the ground. He was bending over talking so sweetly with his four-year- old daughter as they walked off to buy ice cream. It was a wonderful thing to see three generations dancing, singing, playing, and just hanging out on a beautiful summer day for 10 or 12 hours to enjoy what for me…was a blast from the past.

There were food vendors and food trucks with what seemed to be reasonably price, if you did not bring your own faire. In addition, there were craft vendors: tie-dye, candles, incense and all those other cool things you would expect at an event like this.

It was a two-day festival and Snipes Farm had accommodations for camping out Friday night. There were people sleeping in anything from a pup tent…to pop up, pop out… air-conditioned campers. Ahhh those deadheads, that people said would never amount to anything. But I digress.

The lineup of music went from… can’t sit down, got to dance... to let me just sit here and stare at all the cool special effects lighting, as some obscure instrumental (to me anyway) is being played.

Also, in the tradition of any Grateful Dead festival there were no incidents.

And a good time was had by all!

REJS Jazz

REJS Jazz is a growing name on the Jazz scene in Central NJ. The team is made up of Rich Jackson, Eric Thomas and James Freeman.

A few years ago I was introduced to James Freeman through Eric. I had known Rich from my softball playing days in Ewing Twp.

One afternoon while talking Trenton 365 items at Exit 7A with Owner and Sound Engineer Scott Miller, a call came in about a gig at The Big Easy.

Scott Tixier a fast rising Jazz Violinist would be performing in Trenton, I don’t recall how I became involved in the conversation but I spoke to Eric and made the connection that this was “Eric” the Drumming Instructor for the Trenton Children’s Chorus.

The Scott Tixier performance began my relationship with REJS Entertainment and has allowed me to share my talents with the team as the Emcee for the monthly performances and with marketing ideas.

REJS Entertainment has recently presented Artists; Tony Tixier, John Benitez, Dave Stryker, Monte Croft as well as Sonya Robinson, Shamie Royston, Rudy Royston, Gregg August, Donald Edwards, Steven Feifke, Gordon James, Thomas Galliano and several other artists.

Champs 931 Chambers St.

Trenton 365 hosted a block party on Sunday October 11, 2015 of the Columbus Day weekend.

This event took place at Championship Bar located at 931 Chambers St. in Trenton NJ.

“Champs” is my favorite local watering hole for a multitude of reasons. Only a short walk from home, they have wide variety of draft beers with a focus on local breweries, very reasonable prices and most importantly they are committed to building a better community. Some people may suggest that a bar and liquor store can bring no good to a community. In some cases that may be true, however regarding my experiences with Champs this is not the case.

In my opinion, Champs is a true representation of Trenton. On any give day at any given time you can see Trentonians of all walks of life enjoying themselves and others. This may include watching one of the televisions, playing video games, creating art, playing pool, reading a book or just talking with each other. You can also get some work done here as well. When I’m on site with my laptop typing away, no one bothers me, period!

The crew that visits and lives close by, is a truly diverse group representing various ethnic backgrounds, social economic statuses, sexual preferences, languages etc. This is evident by the selections on the “jukebox.” From Rap, Hip Hop, Progressive Rock, Metal, Reggae, Punk, Reggaeton, Spanish selections, Thrash, Hardcore, Country, Classic Rock, Funk, and more! Champs is also a thriving location to see original music from local, regional and national touring acts. These shows could take place on any given night. Several of the offerings are “All Ages Shows” so parents can hang with adults while the “youngsters” listen to their tunes.

The facility doesn’t have a functioning kitchen at the moment, however Champs is an economic generator for the restaurants, bodegas/grocery stores and markets in the area. On a windowsill a basket of the food offerings that make the cut are openly displayed. If you need a recommendation or suggestion any of the friendly staff members will gladly help you out.

Hank Ransome is the owner and can be seen most days at Champs taking care of business and taking in the atmosphere. Hank is a long time Bar/Restaurant Owner with experience in Philadelphia on South Street.

Nikki Nailbomb and Drew Glen manage Champs and always have several friends around who are willing to help and are equally passionate about Trenton. Nikki and Drew have also taken their passion for building a better community by partnering with Trenton 365 for the “Adopt a Library Box” and “Adopt a Trash Receptacle” programs, neighborhood cleanups and several events like the Trenton 365 Public Launch and the block parties. They are Artists, Cyclists, Musicians and simply put the type of people that every post-industrial city needs to welcome into the community.
