Trenton Thunder Home Opener 2019
Overcast skies and rain were in the forecast but that wouldn't stop the joy of baseball in NJ's Capital City, Trenton.

Trenton has a long history with baseball and from the efforts of the Trenton Thunder we can expect it to continue for many more years.

With several upgrades over the years, Arm & Hammer Park is a wonderful venue for the whole family to take in our national pastime.  Some of those upgrades include more seating and things to keep the younger crowd entertained besides the on field action.

Various food options are available including hot dogs, chicken fingers, fries and the traditional concession stand options.  In addition specialty foods by Chickies & Petes and Trenton's own 1911 Smokehouse BBQ and others offer plenty of food choices for everyone including a NJ favorite Pork Roll and a vegan hot dog.

If you are of age and have an interest in Craft Beer you have more than enough options to choose from.

On the field new manager Patrick Osborn will lead a tightly knitted group of players some of which have spent many seasons together.  Osborn stressed that the focus will always be on development and that the team will play the game the right way.

The Thunder will have local Mercer County NJ talent on display via Outfielder Ben Ruta (West Windsor) and Infielder Brandon Wagner (Princeton)

WWE Road to Wrestlemania

As a kid of the 70’s my Pop Culture included Wrestling.  My favorites were

On the “Road to Wrestlemania”, the WWE brought their top tier Professional Wrestling Company to the

Sun Center in Trenton, NJ, to entertain an electrifying crowd. 8 Days away from the biggest event of the

year, WWE Superstars, Stardust, Sin Cara, Kalisto, Bray Wyatt, The Social Outcasts, Ryback, and more,

took this opportunity to strike fear in their opponents, while giving it to the crowd.

I’d like to take a moment to explain the difference between a WWE Televised Show and a WWE House

Show, and why fans should experience both.

On March 21st, I had the pleasure of attending WWE Monday Night Raw at the Wells Fargo Center in

Philadelphia. The show was televised, meaning you’ll see the most popular wrestlers they have to offer.

Televised shows have storylines to follow and directly affect their monthly PPV events.

On March 26th at the Sun Center in Trenton, NJ, this is what you’d call a House Show. House Shows

aren’t televised. Being entertained by the most popular wrestlers isn’t guaranteed. However, there’s an

advantage House Shows have over Televised Shows: Talent to Crowd Interactions. If you’re loud enough

to gain the attention of the wrestler you love or hate the most, chances are, they’ll stop wrestling and

address you. As WWE Superstar who wants to be fed more, Ryback, displayed.

Ryback has been plagued with being a doppelganger of WCW Legend, Goldberg. So Trenton let him have

it. “GOLD-BERG, GOLD-BERG,” they screamed. Please remember, when the WWE Universe makes this

chant at a televised show, Ryback ignores the chant, focusing on the match at hand. But on Saturday

night, not only did Ryback let the crowd know how he felt about their chants, he went on to perform at

least 4 moves from Goldberg’s move list, before winning the match and giving an audience member in

the front row, “The Bird.”

Did we receive top tier talent? No. But were we entertained? YES! Stardust versus Sin Cara opened up

the show with an excited match full of old-school grapples and high flying artistry. “The Bulgarian Brute”

Rusev versus Kalisto captured the crowd with its “David vs. Goliath” approach, cashing in on numerous

near falls (kicking out of a pin) and emotional reactions. And the headliner, The Wyatt Family (Bray and

Rowan) vs. The Big Show and Kane closed the show on a good note, playing towards the crowd, even

tagging in who the crowd wanted to see in the ring.

Overall, it was a good show that the WWE Universe in Trenton, made a great experience.

This past Saturday March 26th I attended the WWE "Road to Wresltemania" event at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton. The 2 tickets were courtesy of Jacque Howard and WIMG 1300AM radio station. I took my wife who has never been to a wrestling match before but she endures my weekly wrestling shows of RAW & Smackdown and my commentary on it. The one thing that persuaded her to go was the chance of seeing her favorite wrestler Roman Reigns <see attached photo> (no idea why she likes such a puny, homely looking guy) but as you can see in the photos her face when she found out Roman wasn't there. I have to say the seats were fantastic and the show was entertaining, so much so that my wife agreed to go to a live taping of RAW when it comes around again, although I think she wants to go just to see Roman but hey I will take it. Thanks again Jacque & WIMG for a night of fun!

Female Fashion & Civic Engagement "Fashion To Figure" Quakerbridge Mall Lawrenceville NJ

March 2015

On Saturday March 21, 2015, Trenton 365 coordinated a fashion event to showcase several women from the Mercer County Region who are committed to civic engagement and enjoy the art and craft of fashion!

This event was held in partnership with Fashion To Figure a women’s fashion retailer that specializes in trendy fashions for women size 12-26.

Store Manager Alicia Thomas and Regional Manager Sandra Havertong were immediately on-board with the concept and handled in store logistics.

CEO Michael Kaplan understands the importance of the surrounding community where his stores are located.  Have a listen to our chat.

Company founders Michael and brother Nick are the great-grandsons of Lena H. Bryant the revolutionary businesswoman and visionary dressmaker who pioneered plus-size fashion more than 110 years ago.  The great-grandmother of the Kaplan brothers affectionately known as “Gram” had a passion and belief: “never ask women to conform their figures to fashion, but rather bring fashion to the figure.”  This statement continues to inspire the Kaplan brothers and drives their mission as they encourage the notion that fashion is a state of mind, not a size range.

Will Foskey of Trenton Going Global handled the photographic documentation.

Kakeya Floyd of The Doll House handled the hair and makeup for the participants.

Participants included
Megan Wear – Visual Fine Artist and Endangered Animal Activist.

Megan is continuing her work on her endangered species series as well as working on some new repurposed furniture.  Megan states, “civic engagement is very important, if one cares about ones community one should be active and supportive of people and institutions fighting for change. It doesn't have to be on a grand scale all the time but just being aware of what you can offer and do to help is what's important.”

“If I could say one thing to encourage it would just be to do it, don't over think it do it. Cause if u don't u never will, and you could miss out on a life changing experience.”

Neisha Kelly – Writer and Spoken Word Artist.

Neisha is currently working on her first novel "Trapped: Inside the Mind of an Addict" a three volume series on my personal battle with addiction.

My quote about civic engagement is "Kindness and courtesy goes a long way, learn to give a little bit each and every day."

7. Caitlin Fair – Community Organizer and Activist
https://www.facebook.com/caitlin.fair.908?fref=browse_search

The OneTrenton Project does a monthly Books and Breakfast program at Shiloh Baptist church every third Saturday of the month. We serve hot breakfast to the community and give out books to youth 18 and under. Our next one will be a special edition in the month of May in conjunction with the Capital City Book Fair. We will be having a #BooksAndBBQ in Mill Hill Park on Saturday, May 2nd from 12pm-2pm. We will have a DJ, food, books, and children's characters for the kids to take pictures with. We also do a weekly Teach-in at the Carver Center on Thursdays from 6:30-8. We discuss various civic engagement topics, as well as Black history, current events, and social justice issues. We also run a "Poetry in Protest" campaign, through which we use various mediums of art to promote awareness about issues of social justice and raise money for grassroots organizations around the country.

Civic engagement is the difference between a reactive community and a proactive community. The more we engage with each other as a community, the stronger and more powerful we become. If we believe it is the responsibility, or the intention, of our administrations to educate and empower us, we are sorely mistaken. It is both our responsibility and our most powerful tool to educate ourselves and each other, and therefore empower and embolden our communities to create the kinds of places we want to live.

The Fashion to Figure event was both fun and powerful. I think that often times, women are the silent workers and unsung heroines within our communities. They are quietly and unassumingly doing much of the work, while getting little credit. I think these are often the same women who tend to overlook themselves in order to help others. To have a whole event not only to honor, but to pamper and celebrate those women, is outstanding. It gives those women the opportunity to be the ones in the spotlight for once, and rightfully so.

Keep pushin. I tell myself this daily. This kind of work is never easy, never pretty, and never glorious. And that's not what its about. If you do this work, it's because you know it is way bigger than you, and way bigger than all of us. And for that reason, we always gotta keep pushin, and may to God be the glory!

Civic engagement is about bringing communities together to identify, disect and solve our problems together. It's about applying the knowledge, skills and values to improve the lives of those within the community. It's a form of empowerment...people need to know that they have a voice, a right and a responsibility to speak out on issues which effect the quality of their lives. We have to start working together and we must instill such values in our children to do so as well.

The fashion to figure experience was uplifting, fun and empowering. As women, we must remember to embrace our femininity, be soft, yet confident and love who we are unapologetically; be a woman. I work with young ladies daily and weather I choose to accept it or not, these girls look up to me, they watch how I move, how I dress, how I style my hair, the way I speak, how I treat myself etc. This event reminded me to always keep that in mind.  In addition, the other women who participated in the event are pretty amazing.

My advise for others, especially our youth, is to always stay true to self. Be honest.  Whatever you do, do it with integrity and good intention; good character goes a long way. Find your purpose in life and never give up on yourself or your goals.  Lastly, have fun and don't be afraid to celebrate you!!

A Social, Cypher or a Meet and Greet?
Trenton365
A Social, Cypher or a Meet and Greet?

Social-
An informal social gathering, esp. one organized by the members of a particular club or group.

Cypher-
The process of tapping into your subconscious.  A state of mind where thoughts and actions flow from your mind rather than being instrumented. Clearly shown in freestyle/beatbox circles and breakdancing.

Meet and Greet
An organized event during which a celebrity, politician, or other well-known figure meets and talks to the public.

This post is about all of the above.  Trenton has long been know for it’s slogan ‘Trenton Makes The World Takes," shortened if you ask some folks and like many other post-industrial cities many will ask, what do we/they make now?

Many people will reply the usual negative items, drugs, gangs, corruption, a class of poor people and so on.  Well the Trenton365 will continue to work counter to the naysayers and general print media to showcase the positives.

Event #1
The Mill Hill section of Trenton held a "meet and greet" to introduce the new and “less new” neighbors to each other.  The event was held at the Trenton Social

Peter Hobday & Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson

Since it's opening "Social" has become a thriving bar, restaurant, venue, art gallery and meeting place. Being just a short stroll fromTrenton Mill Hill it only makes sense that Peter Hobday would choose this as the location.

Jacque Howard,
The Mill Hill Meet & Greet your neighbors was a huge success. It proves, people need a mid-week relaxing break in their hectic lives. Living in Mill Hill since 1985 and then purchasing my home in 1987 I have seen many changes in the neighborhood. Once vacant lots are now rows of grand multi level townhomes. Mill Hill has always prided itself on many levels but one of it's special traits is it's neighbor friendly reputation.
Neighbors talk and look out for one another in this neighborhood. The Mill Hill Meet & Greet is just another occasion to bring people together, a time to meet and greet your new neighbors.
Joe Fyz and I (Pete Hobday) would love to thank the neighbors who participated in this event and also a special thank you to TC Nelson the owner of Trenton Social for accommodating our group and providing a delicious assortment of food.
Pete Hobday

Event #2
I was having a conversation with a friend "LTC" who asked what I knew about Cyphers. During the brief conversation we brainstormed several versions that would make her event EPIC!  A few weeks later at the Pretty Business Tuesdays networking event by founder Ericka Pressley, I was introduced to Neisha Kelly writer of the blog, Loverzquarrel   Many thanks to Will "Deshair" Foskey for the introduction.

At a later brainstorming session we organized a starter event where the subject would be relationships. During this cypher several topics were discussed, one of the attendees sent me this note.

TRENTON-- So, it's a Thursday night and I'm on Facebook running through the news feed that never seems to stop and I stumble across a relationship blog cipher happening at the Trenton Social in just 30 minutes. I hop in the car and head right over because I recognize that despite feeling like I have a firm grasp of what it is to be in a quality relationship, I understand that sometimes feeling like you know something doesn't necessarily mean you really do. Indeed, relationships at times can be hard work. I don't have to tell you this, we hear it all the time at the barber shop or at the hair salon, around the water cooler at work, at the church, in school, in the news, you name it, the issues surrounding relationships are all around us. But being a African American male, the issues in Black Relationships trouble me in particular. New York Daily News Columnist Ralph Richard Banks reported in 2011 that roughly 7 in 10 black children are born to unmarried partners. Conditions like this almost always lead to children being raised by one parent, which believe you me, can be a struggle and a strain on families. So, I said all that to say that the more we talk about these relationship issues, the more we can begin to address to them and not deny their existence. Indeed, that's a big reason I went to the Relationship Blog Cipher hosted by Neisha Kelly, a relationship blogger. I wanted to hear some thoughts and feedback on what's happening in our relationships. I wanted to receive some insight on some of the dysfunction plaguing our partnerships. And after going, I can definitely say my expectations were met. During the Cipher, we talked about a whole host of issues and topics. The subject matter ranged anywhere from whether it was necessary to have a 'checklist' of things you want from a relationship to whether relationships should be liberating or restrictive.
The discussion was on the one hand refreshing because it truly felt like a sigh of relief to get some things out in the open and clear the air about relationship concerns yet at the same time our exchange was somewhat challenging to the extent it got me to give careful to my ways in relationships. The Relationship Blog Cipher is a conversation that needs to be continued and from speaking to the show's host Neisha Kelly, there is more yet to come...

Event #3
The First Friday Flamingo Social took place in the Hiltonia Association section.  Community Activist, Artist-Elise Mannella invited me to the event and shared the below image, more are available on the link for the Hiltonia Association.
